Apple Inc. (AAPL) is expected to roll out its next batch of iPhones in the second week of September, according to a recent Bloomberg report, verifying rumors that have already been circling in the tech world. (See also: Apple Can't Live Up to Expectations: New Street.)
The Cupertino, California-based tech giant, which recently became the first U.S. company to surpass the $1 trillion mark earlier this month, is reportedly gearing up for another "S" year, meaning that its new phones will keep existing designs but boast updated internals, with an "S" designation added to the model number, as with the 6S.
As growth in the global smartphone market decelerates and iPhone users take more time to replace their pricey phones, it's expected that Apple will keep hiking the average price of its handsets as it doubles down on new growth markets outside of its core hardware business.
Users can expect an upgraded version of the 10th anniversary iPhone X, equipped with a 5.8 inch OLED screen, as well as a new high-end iPhone with a 6.5 inch OLED screen, the largest display even in an iPhone.
Less Expensive iPhones Coming
Apple is also expected to come out with another cheaper iPhone model, which will also look like the iPhone X, expected to have a 6.1 inch LCD screen. The less expensive iPhone will reportedly be available in a variety of colors, with earlier rumors calling for gray, blue, red and orange versions. Unlike the iPhone X, the phone will have un-colored aluminum edges replacing the color-matching stainless steel casing on the other newer models.
All three devices are slated to have new gesture controls introduced in the iPhone X, as well as the face-unlocking system Face ID.
Later this year, Bloomberg indicated that users can expect updated AirPods, an Apple watch with a larger screen in the same body, a new wireless charger and an upgraded iPad Pro with a slimmer bezel and Face ID replacing the home button. (See also: 4 Reasons Apple's Big Stock Gains Aren't Over.)
